A group of eight purpose-built KALMAR Automotive Porsche 911s have successfully traversed the challenging terrain of the African Highlands – not once, but twice!
Taking on epic adventures travelling through Rwanda and Uganda, the specially prepared off-road style overland 911s – each based on air-cooled 964 or 993-generation cars, completed a diverse round trip route taking in more than 8000 kilometres of the extraordinary environment, all part of 10-day once-in-a-lifetime adventures.
Equipped with chunky off-road wheels and tyres, roll cages, underbody protection and robust shock absorbers, the unique KALMAR cars turned the heads of locals as drivers from around the world took part in the adventures taking place in September and October 2023. The intrepid pilots from Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Singapore, Taiwan, Spain and the USA, traveled as part of two KALMAR Beyond Adventure (KBA) convoys in different waves, each battling a harsh environment that few Porsche vehicles have ever seen.
Flanked by purpose-built second-generation Porsche Cayennes, the Porsche 911s began the tours with the Beyond Adventure crew navigating solo from South Africa through Botswana, Zambia and Tanzania to reach the starting point in Kigali, Rwanda – a challenging 4000 kilometre trip through the extreme African climate. From here four customer crews drove on two occasions to Entebbe in Uganda, taking in stunning scenery via the Nyungwe Forest Reserve, the beautiful lake Kivu, and the Volcanoes and Bwindi National Parks – the latter’s mountain gorilla population coming good on the KBA “Gorilla Guarantee”.
The expertly curated routes and border crossings, with logistics taken care of by the KBA team, ensured smooth trips, allowing those taking part to enjoy the bespoke adventure.
